The social sciences program aims to help students understand that human and social life is in a constant state of change and development. Students are introduced to the concepts of history, nature and culture, and develop their ability to adapt to the different aspects of the time and environment in which they live.
The aim of the department is to educate children to:
become individuals who understand and embrace Atatürk’s principles and reforms;
respect democracy, human rights and freedoms;
question, research and are able to use what they learn in appropriate and effective ways;
are able to interpret national and international events according to what they have learnt;
are able to understand the cause-effect relationship between events;
make good use of their time;
are hard-working and creative.
With our Social Sciences program we aim for our students to:
Understand that human and social life is in a constant state of change and development, and be able to adapt to the differences in the time and environment in which they live;
Understand the past by analyzing it and be able to use the past to interpret the present and contemporary life;
Develop their study, learning, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and be able to use their creativity while doing so;
Know and assume the responsibilities of citizenship;
Understand their environment and have an awareness of their history, nature, the environment and culture;
Develop the necessary skills related to their personal development, human relations and social responsibility, enabling them to cope with change and the problems of daily life;
Be aware that thinking freely, being tolerant, critical thinking and questioning can exist together.
20TH-CENTURY WORLD POLITICAL HISTORY:
This course is specifically designed for our 8th graders and it aims to address the most important political and social events/ leaders of the century in a chronological order.
This course is for our 7th graders and it aims to ensure that our students can gain a global perspective on humanity through the course of Cultural Anthropology and to make the world increasingly complex and connected to each other. Also, it aims to help them perceive their place in the world and to gain the knowledge and skill accumulation needed to find ways between cultures intertwined networks.
“LOVE YOUR HISTORY INTRODUCE YOUR COUNTRY” PROJECT
Every year in Istanbul or in other places of our country with historical and cultural values, our students volunteer to be tourist guides and contribute to the promotion of the country. They introduce their own cultures and find the possibility to recognize other cultures. They also get a chance to socialize with others and use foreign languages.
PANORAMA 1453 DATE MUSEUM TRIP
Every year with our 7th grade students, a trip to the PANORAMA 1453 HISTORY MUSEUM is done where students get the chance to see the conquest of Istanbul as a three-dimensional panoramic.
ISTANBUL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM TRIP
With our 6th grade students, a trip to the ISTANBUL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM is organized every year to study the works of the ancient civilizations.
GENERAL CULTURE AND INFORMATION COMPETITIONS
At the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade level, the General Culture and Knowledge competitions which are traditionally contested and enjoyed by our students are organized annually.
SOCIAL SCIENCES PROJECT COMPETITIONS
Every year with the participation of the 6th and 7th grade students, Social Sciences Project Competitions are held in different themes.
SEV TURKISH ARTS AND SOCIAL FAIR/FESTIVAL
Each year, the Social Sciences festival is organized in either İzmir or Tarsus SEV where we participate with our projects and students works.
CITY AND CULTURE CLUB
The City and Culture Club, which is offered by the Social Studies Department, conveys the historical and cultural elements of the cities in the world and in our country and then the model of an important work belonging to these cities is made. Both by having fun and learning, our students ' historical and cultural knowledge is enhanced.
